Malcolm Turnbull’s Last Hurrah From The Outsider
Have you been wondering what Malcolm Turnbull, Australia’s Federal Opposition leader, will do when he is ousted from the party leadership today or tomorrow?
His decline and fall is about climate change and the future of our planet. He understands the uncertainties of science while acknowledging the power of the precautionary principle – don’t take a bet against climate change. Just in case.
Unlike many past spills – the issue is one of principle. Mr. Turnbull has declared his values and put his neck on the block.
So what would you do?
Well this is what I wouldn’t do.
I wouldn’t go to the back benches – the humiliation of it all.
I wouldn’t resign my seat – after all 65% of Australians agree with me.
What I would do is to leave the Liberal Party and join Labor Party – whose values are closer to mine and – anyway – is the party I should have been in all the time.
‘Go tell the Liberals – I’m leaving’ (with apologies to Nick Cave).
